context: After the Norman conquest, a bunch of Anglo-Saxons ended up as elite mercenaries in the Byzantine Varangian Guard. At Dyrrhachium they finally got a rematch against the Normans, hoping to avenge Hastings. Spoiler: it did not go well. The Normans basically had a second course of Anglo-Saxon blood.
