Context: The Free French Forces and the FFI (French Resistance) started rising up in Paris on August 18th, before the Allies arrived. For days, they were the only ones fighting the German garrison. The meme captures the vibe: the Nazis thought they had the city locked down, but the Resistance made it clear that Paris was a trap. By August 25th, Leclerc’s 2nd Armored Division finally rolled in and the Germans surrendered.
On August 25th 1944 Paris was liberated from Nazi control by the Allied powers. For the first 5 days of fighting Free France fighters fought the Nazis alone until reinforcements could arrive.

Also from what I have read, between France being liberated and the government was reinstated, the French people also persecuted the French traitors that aided the nazi during the occupation.
