I’m writing articles about JoJo that provide additional context regarding Japan’s culture and language. I suspect the line attributed to Joseph after defeating DIO (Vol. 28) on JoJo Wiki may be mistranslated. I’m not sure whether it’s an actual mistranslation or simply a mistake in JoJo Wiki’s transcription.

  • jojowiki(jojowiki.com/Joseph_Joestar#Part_3-5)
“The things we’ve lost can’t be compared to the importance of the Earth. But because of them, we’re still alive.”

  • Japanese Edition
    “ワシらの失ったモノはこの地球にも匹敵する程大きい。しかし、彼らのおかげだ。彼らのおかげで、ワシらは生きているのじゃ”

  • Literal translation of the Japanese edition
“What we have lost is as vast as the Earth itself. But it’s all thanks to them. Thanks to them, we’re still alive.”

If anyone owns the English edition, could you check whether the line actually appears as written on JoJo Wiki? I’d really appreciate it.
