On Mullvad VPN, happens with most exit node IPs, although not all.
As seen in the pic, my browsing experience on Piefed.zip is text only unless I open a broken image in a new tab, perform the CAPTCHA on media.piefed.zip, close the tab, go back to the main tab then refresh that tab to load the images. Once I’ve done that, I can browse, usually for about 10-15 minutes before I have to perform this hoop jumping again, due to the images breaking again.
This has happened for a long time but now it’s to the point that it’s constantly happening and I’ve begun considering finding a home that doesn’t separate their image hosting into a separate subdomain that requires it’s own cloudflare challenge without any reasonable path to do so.
Is there any solution that doesn’t put the burden of risking privacy on me by disabling my VPN to use Piefed.zip? I really enjoy this particular instance but the experience of viewing content on the fediverse has been significantly degraded by breaking 95% of the images on the platform unless I constantly succeed at a CAPTCHA for a domain that isn’t even the domain I’m browsing.
Using the same everything(PC, browser, VPN, IP, etc.), this is my experience when viewing from piefed.social. Notably, no CAPTCHA at all to use their site and images work off the bat.
