Eidon@raru.reAfter releasing my latest album, "Sundailands," I found myself entering a pause -- a period of compositional silence. I had no idea how long it would last.
Around the same time, I left Belgium for my summer holidays, and for a while music seemed to move to the back of my mind. Then, little by little, it began to return to its central place. A major event was approaching: the concert by the supergroup Beat. The closer it came, the more music occupied my thoughts and my time -- though only as something to play, not yet something to compose.
Looking back, I think I simply felt no real need to create music of my own. I was too absorbed, too overwhelmed by the music that Beat was about to offer me.
On July 3, the concert took place. The event itself was now in the past, although its music was still -- and always will be -- part of my present.
And then this piece began to emerge. So different from the music I had heard, meditated on, and played in the days before.
So here it is: Four A While. A piece in four parts, for piano, Planet T, tenor saxophone, marimba, harp, percussion, drums, double bass and classic guitar. Double bass and guitar have been played by me. With ambient sound by by kevp888 (see track credits for more information)
