    I think that misses the point of the series though, or at least 3 and 4. The point is that you become the god that saved or destroyed the wasteland. You become the legend for the next generation.

      3 and 4 are genuinely the low point of the series and misinterpreted a lot from the original games. New Vegas was a lot closer to the original games. Yes, you can do heroic or terrible things, but I saw the franchise as very much an exploration of human nature during a time where people needed to scrounge and rebuild to survive. In the old games, resources are scarce and you have to make ethically gray choices. There’s not enough to go around, genuinely.

    Look there’s always been plenty of sad story elements to the Fallout games, but sometimes they lean way too hard in the direction of “every outcome is depressing and there is no good option”.
