Hey everyone! I just registered on lemmy.zip and I’m excited to find a community that values open-source culture and genuine conversation.
I’m a self-taught hobbyist coder - not a professional by any stretch - but over the past year I’ve been building small personal tools using AI as a coding assistant. Think of it less as “AI writes my code” and more as “AI helps me learn and ship things I otherwise couldn’t.” The motivation is always the same: I want a tool that does exactly what I need, so I build it myself.
A few projects I’ve been working on lately:
- RSS-to-Mastodon Poster — A Python GUI app that automatically shares RSS feed items to Mastodon accounts. Useful for anyone running a blog or news aggregator.
- Federated Social Platform — A lightweight, single-file federated social platform built in PHP. It’s not ActivityPub-based, but it focuses on simplicity and privacy for small self-hosted communities.
- PowerShell AI Chat Interface — A Windows desktop GUI for running local GGUF AI models, so you get an offline ChatGPT-like experience without sending data anywhere.
I previously shared some of these on Reddit and received mostly harsh criticism about the AI-assisted workflow rather than the actual usefulness of the tools. I’m hoping to find a more constructive space here.
If you’ve built or used similar tools, or have feedback on the projects themselves, I’d genuinely love to hear from you. What communities here would welcome this kind of work?
