You really can’t trust the government to be honest about stuff like this though. Federal prosecutors would be more than willing to manufacture a case against Iranian extraction citizens to curry favor and attention from the administration, lawyers believing the republic is already dead in all but name by and large.
Could be true, but we know they manufactured charges against chinese academics for spying for china when they weren’t to similarly curry favor, the first administration into the biden era. It’s like anti semitism allegations, there are so many bad faith accusations you need the underlying offense and evidence or else you have to presume it’s bad faith.
