How many users are watching H.265 content? Is that what YouTube uses on desktop?
Most streaming moved to AV1 since it’s a lot cheaper. H.265 is mostly used by data hoarders who want to save some space and don’t have latest hardware for AV1 (as software encoding is very slow) or a weird subset of people that can pixel spot differences and prefer H.265 over AV1 in some specific cases.
Isn’t AV1 a lot lower quality?
Ah, fair enough then. I'll be honest, most video I've got in my storage is still MPEG-2. A tiny amount is MPEG-4. I don't really have anything that's nominally in H.26x

Those shit PCs from Dell and HP are going to feel even slower and they will have an even worse battery life. Just to save $0.02 per PC.
Their plan is to have user buy some app after purchase to unlock the hardware on their on PCs.
