hi everyone!

so I found a TV by the dumpster. it was in its box, remote, intact screen and I figured why not haul it home - I can always convert it to a fake skylight if it’s busted!

however, the thing turns on, flashes its logo for a split-second and then turns off the backlight. the screen is still working, I can see the image with a strong light, the speakers play, reacts to the remote, changes inputs, etc.

it’s a 2020 model, goes by SKYWORTH 40E20300, but who knows what the exact origin/model is.

so I’ve replaced backlight LED strips on similar vintage TVs before I don’t think I’ll have problems, but what’s stopping me from spending the money on a new set is that it does light up the entire screen, the whole area, no dim or unlit zones. so I’m thinking the strips are therefore OK, non?

so, does that sound like replacing the strips would fix the issue or is there potential for something more sinister afoot? I can’t really afford to invest a lot of money here. thanks!
