Not really. A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals.
Go in to any pure “democratic” echo chamber and try to be an individual and you’ll see how democratic they really are.

Alternative is special interest groups decides for you. Even if I disagree with the majority of people, at least it’s people deciding. And if we are unhappy about stupid people, it’s on us to change that.
