  Arthur E. Anderson was a giant in the world of accountants. Hard working, innovative, and a notorious stickler for honesty. By the time of his death in 1947, the firm bearing his name was among the largest and most trusted accounting and auditing firms in the entire world.

  Ironically, the firm collapsed just over 50 years later in the wake of the 2001 Enron accounting scandal. Arthur Anderson was Enron’s auditor and while they ultimately prevailed in the ensuing legal battles over the firms complicity in the scandal, their reputation was so badly damaged that they were unable to continue as a going concern, reducing the “Big 5” accounting firms to four.
