Speakers: Isotta Peira, Maciej Pilarski and Francesco Di Candia The sustainability of the open-source web depends on our collective ability to mentor the next generation of creators, developers, and leaders. This session provides a comprehensive overview of official WordPress.org educational initiatives designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional contribution. We will explore the three primary pillars of student engagement, beginning with WordPress Credits, a contribution-focused program where students earn recognition by completing structured tasks under the guidance of experienced mentors. This is complemented by WordPress Campus Connect, an initiative that brings hands-on workshops directly to global campuses to teach web publishing and digital storytelling within a formal classroom setting. Finally, we look at WordPress Student Clubs, which serve as student-led communities that foster peer learning and provide a permanent space for ongoing collaboration within the global ecosystem. By integrating these programs, we create a cohesive pathway for students to move from their first line of code to becoming impactful, long-term contributors to the open-source community.
