I’ve had my phone number for many many years and I’ve developed a sense, of course, for how often I get spam calls. I moved to San Diego a month and a half ago and the number of spam calls has gone up quite a bit since then.
How would spammers know that I’m here?
I haven’t posted my phone number anywhere. I didn’t fill out any paperwork with my phone number. My actual phone number hasn’t changed. Yet the spam spiked right after I got here.

Companies share info about their customers sometimes. That shared info gets added to data products for marketing. Sometimes spammers buy or steal those data products.
