The life, thought and revolutionary legacy of Ho Chi Minh were honoured in Athens during the opening of the exhibition “From the Patriotic Young Man Nguyen Tat Thanh to Ho Chi Minh – A Symbol of National Liberation”, held as part of the Vietnam Culture Day in Greece.

The exhibition and the accompanying Vietnam Culture Day in Greece were co-organized by the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site at the Presidential Palace, the Embassy of Vietnam in Greece and the New Star Art Cinema, marking the 115th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh’s departure in search of a path to national liberation and the 51st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Greece.

Through photographs, historical documents and cultural exhibits, the exhibition presents key milestones in the life of the founder of modern Vietnam while highlighting the heroic struggle of the Vietnamese people against colonialism and imperialism.

Among those attending the opening ceremony was Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), who underlined Ho Chi Minh’s historic contribution not only to the liberation of Vietnam but also to the international communist and anti-imperialist movement.

As Koutsoumbas stressed, Ho Chi Minh was “a figure of the international revolutionary movement and culture” whose lifelong struggle left an indelible mark on the Vietnamese people’s fight for national independence and social liberation. He noted that Ho Chi Minh dedicated his entire life to the cause of freedom, socialism and proletarian internationalism, inspiring generations of revolutionaries across the world.

Referring to the long-standing bonds of solidarity between the Greek and Vietnamese peoples, Koutsoumbas paid tribute to the late Kostas Sarantidis (Nguyen Van Lap), the Greek communist internationalist who fought in the ranks of the Viet Minh against French colonialism and was later honoured as a Hero of the People’s Armed Forces of Vietnam. He described Sarantidis as a living bridge between the struggles of the two peoples and an enduring symbol of proletarian internationalism.

The exhibition also traces Ho Chi Minh’s journey from anti-colonial patriot to communist revolutionary, emphasizing his embrace of Marxism-Leninism and his leading role in Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and socialist construction. It highlights his historic role in founding the Communist Party of Vietnam and leading the Vietnamese people in their victorious struggle against colonialism and foreign intervention.

The events in Athens served not only as a tribute to one of the twentieth century’s greatest revolutionary leaders but also as a reaffirmation of the enduring values of proletarian internationalism, anti-imperialist solidarity and the historic friendship between the peoples of Greece and Vietnam.
