I picked up a cheap LevelOne GEP-5070 last week, just to test a faulty PoE wifi extender. When I had a proper look at it though, I found out that as well as having 48 PoE ports, it can do all sorts of funky little tricks that I don’t understand yet, like VLANs. I’d like to learn more about networking, and set up everything at home properly, but I obviously don’t want to open myself up to unnecessary risks. I’ve checked for updated firmware, and the latest release that I’ve found so far is from 2014. Also, when I enabled https mode on the web interface, I couldn’t access it, as it doesn’t support TLS 1.2 or higher. I had to dig out an old laptop just to be able to log in and reset the firmware.

Is it worth keeping for learning, or is it just scrap at this point?
