PlanetX is a free open source (GPL 3) plugin for QGIS 3.36 and newer, QGIS 4 included. It opens a 3D globe in its own window next to the QGIS map and shows the whole Earth from space down to single streets.
- QGIS project layers on the globe in the map order, a swipe to compare layers, map and globe synchronization in any CRS.
- Terrain with vertical exaggeration, atmosphere, sun lighting by time, OSM base map and 3D buildings.
- My Places - placemarks, paths and polygons, KML and KMZ import and export, tours with MP4 recording.
- Ruler on the WGS84 ellipsoid, elevation profile, slope, aspect, viewshed, insolation, flooding and water flow.
- Point clouds (LAS, LAZ, COPC through PDAL), own terrain from a project raster, drill holes and tunnels under the surface.
- Geology and geophysics layers, earthquakes, Earth cutaway, map sheet designations.
- Other bodies - the Moon, Mars, Jupiter moons and more, and the starry sky.
- PlanetX Lite is the same globe without QGIS - one Rust program for Windows, Linux and macOS and the same program as a web page. It opens scenes saved by the plugin, KML/KMZ, tours, point clouds and 3D models. Version 0.22.0 opens GeoPackage, Shapefile, GeoJSON, GPX, GML, MapInfo, FlatGeobuf, DXF and DWG as layers with styles, labels and extrusion. License Apache 2.0.
- The plugin prepares scenes, Lite shows them on any computer or phone.
