#ELONMUSKS HALF A
BILLION-DOLLAR FAIL 💎
Elon #Musk has spent nearly half a billion dollars trying to influence the American #midterm elections, and the results are extraordinary.
Of the 43 #Republican House candidates he backed, only three had won when #Reuters reported the results. Six of his seven #Senate candidates had lost, with the remaining race still undecided.
In #Texas, home to #Tesla and #SpaceX, Musk spent almost $230 million on the Senate contest alone. Yet the Democrats won both the Senate race and the governorship.
Now, with #Democrats taking control of #Congress, Musk faces the prospect of investigations into his government contracts, political activities, and his involvement with #DOGE.
None of this means his businesses are finished. #Tesla and SpaceX remain enormously significant enterprises, and Musk remains an extraordinarily wealthy and influential man.
But something important has happened.
One of the richest people on #Earth has discovered that spending vast sums of money does not guarantee the #political outcome he wants.
#Wealth can buy #advertising, access, and influence. It cannot guarantee the consent of the electorate.
And perhaps the most interesting question now is whether #America's political institutions can hold extraordinarily powerful individuals accountable, regardless of their wealth.
MONEY IS POWER. BUT IT ISN'T EVERYTHING, ELON.
