Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on switching from IT into finance. TL;DR: 25, apprenticeship in IT + HF in Business Informatics, 5+ years in IT. I want to move into asset/portfolio management and I’m unsure if I really need a Bachelor’s or if there are realistic alternatives. My background Apprenticeship in IT HF in Business Informatics Working as an Application Manager (sub-project lead in various IT projects) Data analysis with Excel/Power BI, investing privately for several years I’ve been interested in markets since my apprenticeship. I know the industry is demanding (don’t worry, I’m not expecting Wolf of Wall Street), but I want to work on something that really interests me, and that’s markets and investing. Most roles seem to require a Bachelor’s in finance (which is quite obvious). With my HF I could go to an FH (e.g. ZHAW, HSLU) for about 4 years part-time, but that’s a big commitment next to a job. I also looked into the CFA. With my work experience I’d be eligible without a Bachelor’s, but I’m not sure if employers take it seriously without one. Roles for career changers exist, but most seem to be in client advisory, which isn’t really what I’m after. My questions Has anyone here switched from IT into asset management or investment roles in Switzerland? How did you land your first role? Is a Bachelor’s really necessary, or can experience + CFA get you in? Are there entry points where an IT background is an advantage (e.g. data/analytics, investment operations, business analyst at a bank or asset manager)? What would you do in my position? Thanks a lot for your inputs! submitted by /u/Far-Sun-3439
