Remarks:
- FediList isn’t seeing the main Loops instance, so I had to manually add that.
- Thinking that through, I decided to switch the Threadiverse data from raw FediList data to my personal dataset (gathered from pinging each individual instance daily and updating my ping list with any additions found from FediList’s server list). There isn’t much of a difference (Lemmy loses ~4k MAU from an instance that doesn’t really seem to exist, but is in the FediList dataset (crustaceanson.theshelf.top)).
- This should at least keep the Threadiverse data consistent (I don’t personally ping the rest of the Fediverse, I would need a dedicated server for that and at that point I would just become another Fediverse-Observer/FediDB/FediIndex/FediList option, which is not my goal (I just want a quality dataset).
Remarks related to this post’s data:
- It looks like Bookwrym’s increase is mostly from bookwyrm.social (starting 2026-10-30). May be a spam wave, but slowed down very quickly (+3056, +855, +234, +122 each day).
- Looks like pixelfed.tokyo was hit by a spam wave (95 -> 49,998 MAU the next day (2026-10-26)).

Notes:
- Threadiverse is Piefed, Lemmy, and Mbin. Fediverse only accounts for listed software [17], not the other [~555] activitypub enabled software.
- Daily Fedilist data gathering began 20261018. Data before 20261018 is calibrated to Fedilist data via 5-point calibration curves (not ideal). FediDB only provides a current snapshot (snapshot within the last 15 minutes, no time series data).
- FediDB seems to use unclear math to get there counts and overestimate the MAU on most software (see previous post, if interested in learning more).
Edit: fixed/removed a Mbin duplicate that caused a relatively large MAU decrease (150 MAU) in the MBin data.
