Kevin Kelly has written some of the most perceptive (IMHO) books on AI. He and Noah Harari are two people who think of it in decades long frameworks.
In this essay he makes the point that future AI is less likely to be some huge monolithic singular thing, but rather a vast swarm of individual intelligences. Furthermore he says we may have to live with the fact we will never be able to fully control or understand them. This swarm will be planetary on scale, and as he says “much of its behavior and intelligence will feel alien. Some may call it inhuman, but it will certainly be unhuman”.
I think he’s still missing something in this picture though with a 2026-76 time frame. 1. Recursively improving AGI will probably be a thing too. 2. Human Brain/AI merge will probably be a thing as well.
