Occupied Paris, June 18, 1944. Denounced by an anonymous letter, Jeanne, a young resistance fighter, has just been arrested by the French police. On the same day, François, an unscrupulous and somewhat cynical burglar, suffers the same fate and finds himself in the same cell of the same police station. –BDT

Taking advantage of an air raid alert, Jeanne and François escape across the rooftops. From then on, through a twist of fate and necessity, the shared destiny of the two young people, whom everything seems to separate, appears sealed. For better or for worse.

This is the brilliant, two-part series follow-up to the equally brilliant Le sursis ("The reprieve") two-part series, about a war deserter who Jeanne’s sister Cécile helps to hide from the local NAZI loyalists.

Both series are an examination of local cultures of the day, the many dangers of occupied France, cinema-like sequences, Gallic-style humor, and romance in all the wrong places. They are like BD royalty to me, and of course, the gorgeous watercolors only add on.
