I'm about to fall into the rabbithole of infrastructure as code. Did some searches, found some projects. What is recommended these days? Ansible? Bundlewrap? Saltstack? Or completely going to NixOS? Currently I have some Boxes running Debian with some local services and some Docker containers (which I want to switch to podman some day) and I want to make these configs reproducable, but I'm not sure I have the time for something completely new like NixOS. Any tips, hinds, ideas?
I've used Ansible and Saltstack professionally and of the two, I think Ansible is less complicated to learn and use.
But I haven't used Chef, Puppet, or Nix and I have limited experience with Terraform so I can't give a useful comparison.
Thanks for all the input. I'm still overwhelmed with all the options. Since these where mostly mentioned, I'll try Ansible, Terraform (then with OpenTofu?!), and risk a look at NixOS. For the record, I want to mostly manage physical machines
