For this Special Thursday Cinema Night, first up is Stromboli (1950), an Italian drama/romance and one of the most famous films of renowned auteur Roberto Rossellini, whose Germany Year Zero (1948), Paisan (1946), and Europa ’51 (1952) we previously watched… Ingrid Bergman stars as a Lithuanian refugee who marries a poor Italian fisherman to get out of an internment camo at the end of WW2; he takes her to his fishing village, and there, she undergoes culture clash as her more cosmopolitan attitudes bump up against the working-class culture of her new home, not to mention the language barrier. Great reviews for this, so let’s check it out.

Next, we’re going back into the Marvel mines with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), Sam Raimi’s contribution to the neverending franchise. Following Wanda’s loss of her family at the end of Wandavision (2021), she has been fully Jokerfied, and is now threatening the entire multiverse, terrorizing timelines in her quest to reunite with her family. When she discovers a teenage girl whose powers might be able to let her do that, Doctor Strange leaps into action to prevent her multiverse-hopping madness from going too her. Some people like this one. I’ll give Raimi a chance.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Blorptube, right here:
