This is Steem Hop and honestly if you have played Crossy Road before you will instantly understand what is going on here because it is basically that same endless hopping concept but with a crypto twist tied to http://steemhop.org. You control this small white cube character with a little red hat or crest on it and the whole goal is just to hop forward as far as you can without getting hit, and the game counts your score at the top left while your coins and top score is at the top right. It looks simple and cute with that low poly isometric style, everything is bright orange sand and blue water and green trees, but the second you start moving it gets stressful because you have roads with purple and red cars flying past, then train tracks with trains, then rivers with floating logs that you have to time perfectly.
What you see in this gameplay is exactly how frustrating and addictive it can be, like at the beginning the cube is stuck near the train crossing with those red and white barriers flashing, then it tries to cross and immediately gets smashed and you get that big STEEM HOP game over screen in that chunky 3D orange text on a blue background, and then it restarts again from zero. That loop is the whole game, you hop, you die, you start again, you try to beat your high score which in this video the top is 93 and the player has like 253 coins already collected from previous runs. When you finally get past the first road you have to deal with the logs in the river, and if you miss a log you fall in the water and it is game over, if you stay too long on a log you get carried off screen, so you have to be fast and time your hops forward, backward, left and right.
The version playing here is the web version on http://steemhop.org and you can see the browser UI at the bottom, and the controls are just taps or swipes to hop, with the music and sound buttons on the right side of the screen. What makes Steem Hop different from regular Crossy Road clones is the Steem integration, the coins you collect in game which you can see counting up at the top right corner like 253, 254, 259, 255 are actually meant to be linked to crypto rewards or leaderboard stuff on the site, so you are not just hopping for fun you are farming a bit. The level design keeps changing too, after the desert rocks you get into areas with more trees, then more roads stacked together, then faster cars, so even if you get good at timing one section the next one is harder and that is why the score in the video keeps resetting from like 18 back to 0.
I swear this game is one of those that looks easy until you play it yourself, because in the video the player will go from 0 to like 6, 7, 8, 10 and then die from one mis-timed hop onto the road or by getting hit by a purple car, and you get sent straight back to that STEEM HOP screen again. It is so annoying but you just want to tap play again immediately, and that is the whole hook, you want to beat that TOP 93 you see at the top left. The character is small and the hitboxes feel pretty tight so you can barely squeeze between cars sometimes, and the trains on the tracks are even worse because they come without warning, you see the red signal light start flashing and you have like one second to get off the track or you are done.
