Maybe unions could organize social gatherings outside working hours for people with these kinds of jobs to increase solidarity and a place to meet outside work. But even free time is expensive when not paid a living wage.

Depends what you do. Sit round a burning superyacht at the harbour, warming your hands is a fun group activity which costs you nothing.
