Australia isn’t afraid to be racist as fuck on our own behalf. We voted down an anti-racist (pro indigenous) change to our parliament in six out of six states and one of two mainland territories. Only the capital territory voted in favour.
If America asks us to be more racist, discriminate against a white guy against our own sporting interests for being a decent human in dealing with American black men, of course we will. That’s easier than participating in an illegal war which we’ll do just because America asks.
You’re completely right on Australia being extremely racist when it wants to be. However the yes vote is a bad example. It was a bad proposal, of major changes, and segregated society further.
It was however a perfect example of Canberra dictating to indigenous people how Canberra will help them without guidance or support from indigenous communities, or addressing the real issues, such as closing the gap.
