gaylord_fartmaster@lemmy.world 2 months agoI’ve been doing this for at least a decade now and the drives are just as reliable as if you bought them normally. The only downside is having to block one of the pins on the SATA connector with kapton tape for it to work.

Sometimes yes, but I haven’t seen that lately. 5 years ago I had several of those, but I haven’t seen it recently

I think it also depends on the host. I’m running some power-disable disks in my boxes and they didn’t require adapters or tape.
