  In general, the way vikings are portrayed in media is more fantasy than fact.

  It’s like everyone things vikings only wore leather and furs and caked their faces in dirt, men in reality, vikings were pretty colorful, clean and fabulous.

    But they are depicted as big, strong, aryan white men, so that‘s ok.

      not always. I remember they cast Caroline Henderson (pretty cool scandinavian singer) to play the role of a historical norwegian viking jarl in the show Vikings, which was a very strange choice. And tbf, that show is especially guilty of depicting the fantasy version of vikings with furs and leather and modern hair cuts and dirt on their faces. I don’t have much respect for that show.

      I think Vinland Saga does a much better job with historical accuracy when it comes to depictions of clothes, ships, houses and tools.
