Comment on YouTube’s ad blocker crackdown now includes third-party apps
Cyyy@lemmy.world 7 months agoFreeTibe, newpipe etc. simulate being a browser and extract the video that way…if YouTube would want to add ads for this thirdparty clients they would have to inject them directly into the video feed.

With the WebM-Format they use it might be possible. It’s based on Matroska and there is a feature to replace or add chunks with the stream in realtime.
