A_Very_Big_Fan@lemmy.world 6 months agoThey are talking about a particular group, not the entire population like you seem to have taken it. When people say “fuck America”, they’re talking about the American powers that be (the government, corporations, military, etc. depending on context).
In this context, “fuck Israel” clearly is talking about the military powers. In religious contexts, some denominations of Abrahamic religions might say “fuck Israel” and that wouldn’t mean the citizens either, it’d mean the religious institutions.

For discussion’s sake, I’d say that our definitions are different. For me, when someone says country that’s both the government and the citizenry of the country. Based on what you’re saying that means just the government of the country. Both are valid definitions given the flexibility of the English language.
