Comment on 59 Democrats vote with Republicans passing bill to deport illegal immigrants who committed DUIs

It’s interesting that in the example given of the illegal who drunkenly caused a crash and killed 2 people had already been deported four times. So why act like deporting him again is a real solution?

It is essentially saying: what we have been doing hasn’t worked, so let’s do it harder! Democrats obviously don’t think drunk driving is a crime since they won’t vote for a measure that doesn’t actually solve anything!

And why drunk driving specifically? I mean don’t get me wrong we all know drunk driving is bad no matter who does it, but wouldn’t it make more sense if an undocumented person person commits any crime under US law there should be some consequence? It shouldn’t matter if any undocumented person, applying for asylum or not, steals mail or violates the securities act of 1933. They should be kicked out.

Let’s be real about this: deportation is obviously not the whole answer. Still, republicans refuse to cooperate on comprehensive border and immigration reform simply because they don’t want the current president to get credit for anything during an election year - all the while crying about a crisis at the border.

Further, 33 out of 35 of Trump’s immigration agency actions either got ruled against in court or the agency withdrew them when they got sued, because they knew damn well they couldn’t win. So it’s not like we can even go back to those policies, because they aren’t legal.

TLDR: this is just more political theatre.
