HardlightCereal@lemmy.world 1 year agoWhy not train or bicycle? Those are sensible ways to travel. And you don’t need to live in a city center to walk places, that’s what medium density neighbourhoods are for.

I prefer living in the sticks. And that's not the alternative. Carbon neutral synthetic gasoline is literally a thing and Porsche is producing it for their F1 team (for testing). IIRC the product was fully functional at this point but just needed some process improvements to decrease the cost, I don't remember what the cost per gallon was but I remember it being a lot lower than I expected even without the benefits of economies of scale. I personally think that'd be a much better route to go than battery electric with the amount of rere, exotic, or toxic materials needed for that, plus charge times, plus the certain applications where that doesn't work well at all (Semis and motorcycles being two off the top of my head).
