Meganium97@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 months agoIt didn’t even look bad tbh. I view it as the admin getting hard baited by a hexbear user. Do take in mind - you aren’t alone in this sentiment. Basically everybody here told our admins it would be a bad idea to defederate.

Any chance you can clarify something? I’m not from either involved instance, obviously, but I’m curious about what some users said about your admins being pro-hexbear. Is there any truth to it?

What? No way in hell. Our admins have expressed genuine hate for hexbear, and the community agrees. Hexbear has had a track record of antisocial transphobic users who will do anything to get offended at anyone, for any reason.
Basically, they’re 4chan and Twitter, but only the bad parts.

I’m confused, and you seem to know what’s going on.
Are you saying it’s trolls with hexbear accounts? Or it’s trolls originating from Hexbear that make accounts in your instance to troll?
.world defederated from them months ago so I’m out of the loop.
It’s just seems like defederating and something like requiring emails for signups would fix that.

Hexbear are trolls who pretend to be trans and bait people into saying controversial things, i.e. this incident.

I gotcha. It seemed entirely off-base, considering the generally well thought out defederations. This defederation confused me enough to wonder, but I’m happy to be told otherwise. Loathe me some dramabear.
