Comment on Microsoft is adding a new key to PC keyboards for the first time since 1994
nikosan@lemmy.world 8 months agoThe key seems pretty pointless. I disable cortana anyways so idk why i’d want a key for it lol. It’s other function is search apparently but I already use the win key for that

You don’t, anymore than you need the Windows key. MS just wants accessing AI on their platform to be quick and ubiquitous. This is their solution.

But who is this for? New laptops?
Apple has a closed system, so they can use whatever layout they want, but how can Microsoft require that manufacturers will implement this key?
I know that it happened before with the Win key, but I’m too young to know the details of how that became the norm.
