Comment on Archaeologists Uncover Rare Porcelain Cargo From Mysterious Shipwreck

How are the textiles preserved or are they saying the boxes were marked that that’s what they originally contained?

Along with blue and white Chinese porcelain bowls and cups, archaeologists have uncovered chandeliers, goblets, textiles, and crates that are believed to contain tea, herbs, and medicines. Beginning in the late 17th century, Chinese goods including porcelain, silk, lacquerware, and tea became status symbols in Northern Europe, fueling a new consumer society supplied by English, Dutch, and Swedish East India trading companies. The sunken ship in the Skagerrak strait is evidence of these bourgeoise appetites.
