Comment on how do I know if I've been banned from an instance other than my own?
all-knight-party@kbin.run 1 year agoBecause OP was asking for help and information. One guy can have his fun dumb comment. Six guys doing it is too many.

We also can’t be shitting on everyone bringing engagement to lemmy either. And how is someone supposed to know how many are tolerable unless they try? What was Reddit, the third got nuked?

They tried, I think six is too many. And to be clear, I think people can have infinity dumb fun comments if they'd like, but at least somebody should stop to try to help OP before they usurp a legitimate question into their own sandbox, if somebody tried then I wouldn't have said anything. Engagement is only really useful if it's the intended kind. Who cares if there's a ton of engagement if it's all just trolling, as light as it is.

On the one hand, the comments will keep the post higher with the chances of it being seen by someone who may actually know the answer.
That’s fair, does become trolling at a point, but that’s why there is mods and rules as well. That’s their decision to make.

I'll give you a different perspective. Someone who may know the answer may look at the comment count and assume it's such a simple question somebody within the 17 comments must've already given it, and they scroll on.
I'm not saying the mods should ban or even chastise these people, I just personally find it distasteful, so I'm saying so. I can understand parts of your argument as well.
