To me thats part of it being appropriate. In another comment I mentioned a few of the more popular hardware communities - which are 90+% product announcements, and there aren’t many others I’m aware of. The build a pc community on lemmy.ca has no activity, and the build a pc community on .world has a grand total of 5 subscribers, and less than 30 posts in a year.
Forcing fragmentation just would not make sense, I agree.
