I kinda wonder if it’s panic at some point. Like they make a fuck up and then start going “maybe this will fix it, maybe this will fix it” and it’s just getting progressively worse but they can’t stop themselves.

I see this with my kids sometimes, without the panic, they see that they’ve messed up a line when painting and they try to fix it but they do the same thing just slightly over, rinse repeat until a 7mm line is now 30mm thick.
