I thought funkwhale is dead
They are close to releasing a version 2.0 that was afaik largely rewritten.
do you know off the top of your head when the devs said the update is supposed to release?
They are on an advanced release candidate for v2.0 so it should be soon: dev.funkwhale.audio/funkwhale/funkwhale/-/tags
