Bougie_Birdie@piefed.blahaj.zone 15 hours agoYNAB is a budgeting program, they call it You Need A Budget. I understand it’s popular, but maybe not so popular an acronym to provide such little context for it.
I support the intent behind the community, free alternatives for an american app seems like a noble cause. I worry that limiting its association to a single app hidden behind an acronym that you would have to be familiar with to know what it is will probably limit its reach.
FreeBudgetApps, BudgetingApps, PersonalFinanceApps, ManageYourMoney, BudgetSoftware, EnvelopeBudgets - in my opinion any of these would be a better name with wider reach

I think the idea is to focus on apps that specifically emulate the YNAB philosophy - giving every dollar a job, building up a future buffer, etc, and focus on ‘envelope’ budgeting style.
But I agree that perhaps a different name (heck, EnvelopeBudgeting) might have been less dependent on people knowing the original app.
