Comment on Consumer hardware is no longer a priority for manufacturers
cmnybo@discuss.tchncs.de 2 weeks agoYou used to get a fairly significant upgrade ever few years for about the same cost as the old hardware. Transistors aren’t really getting much smaller anymore, so more performance needs a bigger die and costs more money.

Transistor size downscaling is pretty much done. Also mosfets can’t much improve in this race anymore. We would need a new computing paradigm to see manufacturing cost reductions or major performance leaps. For consumers thats still years away.
