This is a common concern, you know “is this just virtue signalling”, but we’re taking about a vote in which a majority of Australians want this included in our constitution.
That’s not nothing.
Yes parliaments could ignore their advice, but I think they would do so at their peril given the (potentially) demonstrated will of Australians.
Also, an alternative where this new body has actual power is kind of antithetical to the way our democracy works - only parliaments make laws.

This article isn’t so much about whether the Voice will be effective but more so whether Peter Dutton, the opposition leader, is being truthful in his campaigning against the Voice.
