I’m a foreigner and my knowledge on the matter is as short as my time in the country, but…
Isn’t thefavct no.1 a point against? The Parliament is free to ignore those representations. Maybe I’m not making the right parallellisms but looks like every other party in my country of origin slapping a rainbow flag on their slogantpo cater to me without offering me anythong of substance.
This is a common concern, you know “is this just virtue signalling”, but we’re taking about a vote in which a majority of Australians want this included in our constitution.
That’s not nothing.
Yes parliaments could ignore their advice, but I think they would do so at their peril given the (potentially) demonstrated will of Australians.
Also, an alternative where this new body has actual power is kind of antithetical to the way our democracy works - only parliaments make laws.
It is, but unfortunately it’s the smallest increase in representation that we could offer to our First Australians that could actually get up. I don’t need to comment on how even that little increase in influence that I’d bring proposed is going down.

This article isn’t so much about whether the Voice will be effective but more so whether Peter Dutton, the opposition leader, is being truthful in his campaigning against the Voice.
