I’ve heard people suggest that the increasing incapability of the US to reliably enforce their will in the Middle East and the emergence of BRICS makes it so that they want to guarantee there is a puppet regime in Venezuela to reliably sell them oil. It’s all a long-term geopolitical strategy.
