Comment on How A Blast From The Past - Lemmy.World

It really doesn’t seem all that long ago that I would pull a tab from the BBS phone number tear sheets from my local grocery store (just a store in a small regional chain, not a national chain), then go home and fire up my 9600 baud modem and check out what was on offer. No ads, no corporatization yet, because it wasn’t interesting enough for companies to spend time on it and they didn’t really understand it anyway. Everything moved more slowly then.
People would actually pay me money to build them websites not too many years later. What a time to be alive.

It doesn’t really. It doesn’t seem that long ago I was tinkering with an Altair, or trying to get a Timex/Sinclair to not crash a minute after the program loaded from the cassette player. I feel like I’m in one of those Star Trek time warps where all the stars are just whizzing by.
