mapto@feddit.bg 5 months agoI hope one day the Lemmy developers arrive at the idea that a person could be a community, somewhat like the way Mastodon treats communities as users. It’s a confusing generalisation, but it works.
I’d love that idea. Keep it private by default, but if people want people to follow them sure! If they want people talking on their page, sure. Etc etc
Honestly better that the mastadon/Twitter model to me anyways. Like there are few personalities I follow, and their communities are great. I don’t really want disconnected no context verbalizing though like Mastadon/shitter does.
Reddit has that, and the ability to follow a user and get notifications when they post. I’m not sure it’s widely used there, but I think it would be a decent feature to add to Lemmy.

I personally dislike the user/profile centric approach of micro-blogging platforms like mastodon. Platforms like lemmy being based on communities instead is the single reason they are my social media of choice.
