That’s an optimistic perspective and I feel like we need more optimism these days. And maybe sometimes people do change their minds on things with social media discussions, though I think it’s already a difficult medium to work with.
For maga shit though, those people are basically cultists, and from what I understand it’s pretty much impossible to get people out of a cult without a personal connection helping them.

I honestly think there’s essentially zero chance of any argument resonating with someone who identifies as MAGA at this point.
I’d say there’s more danger to letting them into spaces to push hateful shit than there is benefit in the moonshot chance that one of them might hear an argument that resonates.

See, I’m torn. On one hand, I feel like this ‘us vs them’ mentality contributes to the sort of tribalism that ultimately results in movements like MAGA popping up. If these people can only operate in MAGA-friendly spaces, they’ll rarely speak to anyone who disagrees with them, and will have no reason to reflect on their worldview.
Then I read the news. If current events aren’t enough to convince them that they’re misguided, I’m not sure that anything will.
I’m not sure I know what the answer is, but it’s been an interesting discussion.
