If i truly wanted something secure, I’d selfhost an IRC server over Tor, and force all users to verify their nickname using public key cryptography

Knowing your threat models very useful and important. If I was running a government communication program, I wouldn’t let my people use signal. Too much trust in another government. But that’s not nay saying signal, but my threat model would be much more complex, and I would absolutely not be able to use signal.
