“Beating Like a Drum” by Eskimo Joe. Creepy song with ambiguous lyrics, but I settled on the interpretation that it’s about the psychic imprint (the memory, the learned habits and reactions) left in an abused person’s mind by their abuser, long after the abuser is physically removed from them.
