Lemmy’s hateboner for llms is odd to me,it makes sense to hate generative ai, but this is using deepseek, a chinese open weight model anyone can run with the right hardware or api/subscriptions. Opencode go is 10$ a month for like 80$ of deepseek credits a month. Cheap, attainable, not harming anyone, no profit being made.

for real. Im starting to find it more frustrating than actual ai slop
Not to say they don’t have valid concerns. It just feels suffocating and counter productive is all. I even spent too much time and energy debating if I should respond to you wth my actual opinions…and that is so fucking stupid and a sign of something unhealthy going on.
I’ve found a few communities on here that are more level headed about it, but they are the minority it seems.
it’s amazing the types of discussions can pop up when you don’t have to worry about getting sniped for talking about doing ANYTHING with AI.

What are those coms?
I am thinking about a Lemmy/pieces/mbin client in which you have two modes. One is the raw mode where everything is like it is now bit you can follow people.
And in the other mode you just see what people you follow posted.
I believe it’s called white listing?

Oh man, so I’m on my 5th (and hopefully final) lemmy/piefed server. The interactions I had were on my previous accounts and I can’t remember exactly what communities they were, sadly
But I think most of them were related to local llama, which makes sense why they are a little more level headed about it
I really enjoy r/leftistforai on Reddit. I’ve been participating/watching it when it was super small. It’s nice to see it growing. Those are some of the most sane AI takes I’ve ever seen on the internet.
After reading some posts and comments on there, it becomes obvious how silly a lot of the “anti-ai” and “ai-bro” discourse/culture is
Kinda wish there was something like that on the fediverse. it took a while to get where it’s at now in Reddit, which has a much larger user base to pull from. Can’t imagine how long it would take to gain traction on the fediverse.
